COCORO Steam demo news
The 20 August 2026 drop — a try-before-buy slice, not a second walkthrough.
When the demo went live
Frontwing released a free COCORO demo on Steam on 20 August 2026, one week before the Japanese full release on 27 August (26 August on some Steam pages). Steam news called it a chance to experience the beginning of the story. Frontwing’s international account used the same wording and pointed players at the full-game store page. The official English site echoed the date with a one-line news item: demo now available on Steam.
The trial is a separate Steam app (5069120). You download it from the COCORO store page via the demo button, not as DLC attached to a purchase. You do not need to own the full game. You do need a Steam account and a PC or Deck that meets the Windows 11 requirements.
This page is the news article for that drop. It is not the play guide. Controls, language menus, skip, auto-play, and what to look at in the opening hours live in the demo play guide. If you came here from a search for “how to play the COCORO demo,” go there next.
What Frontwing actually said
The public message was short on purpose. Steam: the demo lets you experience the beginning of the story. Frontwing USA: same line, plus a reminder that the full visual novel was a week away. There was no official beat list of chapters included, no promised CG count, and no published statement that demo saves import into the retail build. We will not invent those details.
What you can infer from the surrounding launch: the demo exists to test UI language, Japanese voice playback, reading speed, and Deck comfort before you spend USD 24.90 (or the 20 percent launch price through 7 September 2026). The full game is a linear, one-heroine route of about five hours. A beginning-of-story demo is meant to sell the garden, Cocoro’s voice (Hina Youmiya), and Asta Konno’s opening tone — not to replace the getting started guide or the review.
If you want faces before you install, skim Cocoro’s profile. Keep it spoiler-light; the demo is the story’s front door.
Demo versus full release
| Topic | Demo (20 Aug 2026) | Full game (26/27 Aug 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Steam app | 5069120 | 4650950 |
| Price | Free | USD 24.90 list; 20 percent off through 7 Sep 2026 |
| Story | Beginning of the route, per Frontwing | Complete linear story |
| Achievements | Not the 12-trophy retail set | 12 Steam achievements |
| Cloud / Deck | Trial on Verified hardware is still a useful test | Cloud, Family Sharing, Deck Verified on the paid app |
Steam Deck Verified applies to the product Valve tested. Running the demo on Deck is still the right way to check font size, trackpads, and sleep/resume before you buy. Use the Steam Deck notes alongside the demo guide. Playtime estimates on the playtime page describe the full route, not the trial.
Because the apps are different IDs, do not assume Cloud folders overlap. Frontwing has not posted a save-transfer FAQ. The safe plan: finish the demo, decide, buy, start a new file in the full game. If a later official post confirms import, the news log will record it.
Why the demo still matters after launch
The full game is out, but the demo stayed on the store page through launch week. That is useful for anyone who missed the 20 August weekend, is waiting on the sale end date, or wants a friend to sample Tsukumo without gifting the retail SKU. It is also the cheapest way to confirm that Japanese voices and English text behave on your machine.
The demo is not a substitute for the launch recap if you need current price and bundle info (Steam’s COCORO + KANADE bundle is a full-game offer). It is not a spoiler-safe review. It will not list the 12 achievements — that is the achievements page. Think of it as a store-attached sample, then leave this news page.
After you play the opening
If the garden and Cocoro already work for you, buy during the introductory window and follow getting started. If you want a critical read first, use the review. If you only needed to know that a demo exists and when it dropped, you are done here — the Updates Hub points at launch, news, and this article without mixing them into one blob.
Support for install failures is still ask@frontwing.co.jp. Demo-specific bugs should mention that you are on app 5069120, not the paid build.

When did the COCORO demo release?
20 August 2026 on Steam, one week before the Japanese full launch. Details of how to play it are in the demo guide.
Does the demo include the whole story?
No. Frontwing said it covers the beginning of the story. The full linear route is the paid game — see the launch recap and playtime.
Will demo saves transfer to the full game?

Where do I download the demo?
From the [Steam store page](https://store.steampowered.com/app/4650950/COCORO/). It is a separate app (5069120), not DLC.

This page is news about the drop. The demo play guide is how to set language, test Deck comfort, and leave before spoilers.
